Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Amena Mirza, and I am registered with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS). I am writing to formally petition regarding the final outcome in my KNPE 251 course.
As part of my academic accommodations, I was informed that if my disability affected my ability to write an exam, I would be eligible to defer it. I exercised this option and deferred my exam for KNPE 251. However, when the time came to write the deferred exam, I was unable to do so due to a significant decline in my mental health.
I contacted the course team to request the opportunity to rewrite the deferred exam, but I did not receive a response. Upon later checking onQ, I discovered that I had been assigned a failing grade for the course, despite my inability to complete the exam being directly related to my documented disability.
I want to ask that this situation be reconsidered in light of my QSAS accommodations and the medical circumstances that prevented me from writing the exam. I would be grateful for the opportunity to either rewrite the exam or pursue an alternative academic remedy that would allow me to demonstrate my learning in this course without being penalized for circumstances outside of my control.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Please let me know if any further documentation or clarification is needed from me or from QSAS.
Sincerely,
Amena Mirza
