Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To the Arts and Science Petitions Committee,

I am writing to request permission to add and drop two Fall 2025 courses after the September 15 add/drop deadline.

Prior to the deadline, I had placed myself on the waitlist for two courses and remained there until the deadline passed. Because of this, I was unable to enroll or drop a current course on time. I checked availability daily and was prepared to add the course as soon as a space became available, but this did not happen until after the add/drop period closed. I also considered dropping one of my Psychology courses to lighten my course-load, but doing so would have left me in fewer than four courses, which would classify me as a part-time student. For this reason, I kept four Psychology courses in my schedule, while waiting and hoping and remaining diligent in my attempt to be admitted to one of the online courses. Unfortunately, even though I was near the top of the waitlists, the deadlines precluded me from making this adjustment.

This situation has affected my ability to balance my schedule in a way that supports both my academic success and my mental health. My current schedule includes a heavier Psychology course-load, and adding either ENIN 301 (Creative Entrepreneurship) or IDIS 280 (Interdisciplinary Approaches in Healthcare), I believe, would provide a more manageable workload balance.

I appreciate that this request reflects me coming to these decisions later than I should have. On Sept 12 I met with my accommodations advisor for the first time. Her support has been invaluable and, with her, I am planning my academic schedule to reduce strain while still meeting degree requirements. I am confident that this adjustment will help me succeed and prevent further impacts on my academic ability and performance.

I respectfully request that my petition to add one of these courses be approved, while simultaneously permitting me to drop Psych 358. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

PS. I would like to note that the petition deadline of September 22 2025 coincides with Rosh Hashanah – the Jewish New Year and one of the most significant days in the Jewish calendar. While I accept full responsibility for neglecting to act sooner on this Petition, it was disappointing for me and my family to find a major deadline scheduled at this time.
