Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Naaman,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Jordyn Gotlieb, and I am a third-year Life Sciences student at Queen’s University. I am writing to respectfully request an exemption from the 6.0-unit limit for study abroad programs for my upcoming winter-term exchange at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
This exchange is a rare and invaluable opportunity to broaden my academic and personal development. While my focus at Queen’s is in the life sciences, I am still exploring potential career paths want to use this experience to build a more interdisciplinary perspective that engaging with diverse subjects abroad will enrich my understanding of global issues, expose me to new ways of thinking, and help me approach future challenges with a more holistic lens.

The courses I hope to enroll in include:
Politics of the Developing World
Spanish Contemporary Art
Urban Interventions: Graffiti & Public Sculpture
Intercultural Communication
Modernism

These courses align strongly with my personal interests of culture, politics, and communication, equipping me with critical soft skills that are essential in today’s world.
I understand that the current regulations limit study-abroad students to 6.0 units, but I believe this cap would limit me from making the most of this unique opportunity. Taking a full 15.0-unit course load will allow me to expand my learning in ways that will strengthen my adaptability and cultural competence, which are qualities that I consider fundamental to both my future academic and professional success.

Thank you very much for considering my request. Please let me know if you need any further information, and I would be happy to discuss this in person if helpful.

Best regards,
Jordyn Gotlieb - 20429828

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: To ensure that I can manage the additional workload effectively, I have developed a clear plan for academic success.

Time Management: I will implement a detailed weekly study schedule, similar to the one that has worked well for me at Queen’s, to keep track of my coursework, assignments, and exam preparation evenly across the semester.

Regular Academic Support: I will stay in close communication with my academic advisors at Queen’s as well as seek guidance from faculty at UAB to monitor my progress and address any challenges as soon as they arise.

Personal Happiness and Wellbeing: I will prioritize balance by using student support services at both institutions and staying connected with family and friends back at home.

Academic Resources: I plan to take advantage of UAB’s online databases language-support resources and their international student
