Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am requesting an International Letter of Permission (ILOP) to study at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona during the winter 2026 term. I am eager to participate in an exchange because I want to embrace new opportunities, gain international exposure, and experience sociology education in a different cultural and academic environment. An exchange is an important part of my academic and personal goals, as it allows me to see the world, learn how social issues are approached internationally, and adapt to new perspectives and ways of learning.
Barcelona is an ideal city for this experience. It is a global hub for culture, diversity, and education, while also offering the opportunity to immerse myself in both Spanish and Catalan traditions. The city’s rich history, diverse community, and multilingual environment will allow me to grow personally while strengthening the cross-cultural communication skills that are increasingly vital in today’s interconnected world. Studying in Barcelona will not only contribute to my academic development but also provide me with the opportunity to live and learn in one of Europe’s most vibrant and international cities.
Through careful research and planning, I have selected courses that align closely with my academic goals, including both electives and degree requirements. Before finalizing my choices, I proactively reached out to the Sociology Department to have specific courses pre-approved for transfer credit. In fact, my exchange schedule allows me to take more sociology courses than I would have been able to at Queen’s this winter. This means that, in addition to gaining valuable international and cultural experience, my exchange will also help me make strong progress toward completing my degree requirements.
For these reasons, I respectfully request an ILOP for Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Winter 2026 semester.

I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology at Queen’s University. To ensure my courses align with my degree requirements, I consulted with the Undergraduate Chair of Sociology before finalizing my selections.
Through this process, I identified UAB courses that correspond directly with upper-year sociology electives at Queen’s, and I confirmed that I have room in my academic plan to take personal interest electives. I have proactively obtained pre-approval from the Sociology department for these courses to count toward my major.
My exchange schedule will allow me to complete more sociology credits than I was able to enroll in at Queen’s during the Winter term, due to scheduling conflicts. This means that studying abroad will not only enhance my academic experience and global perspective but also help me progress efficiently toward my degree completion.

SA3022E – An Urban Approach to Spain and Europe
SA3048E – Communication and Gender
SA3049E – Intercultural Communiaction
SA3066E – Applied Arts for Wellbeing and Social Change

I will be maintaining a full-time course load while on exchange and have structured my academic plan to balance a rigorous but manageable workload abroad. I am confident in my ability to meet all academic expectations while maintaining strong academic performance.
To ensure academic success, I have developed the following strategies:
Proactive Communications: I will maintain regular contact with academic advisors at both Queen’s and UAB to ensure that all course selections and evaluations align with transfer credit requirements.
Time Management: I plan to use structured weekly schedules and digital tools to manage assignments, study time, and travel while maintaining academic balance.
Use of Academic Support Resources: I will access UAB’s academic support services, language resources, and student advising as needed, and remain connected with Queen’s advising for additional support.
Upon returning to Queen’s, I will review my Academic Advisement Report to confirm the successful transfer of my UAB credits. The courses I complete abroad will strengthen my academic foundation in sociology, particularly in global, cultural, and urban contexts.
