Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),

My name is Rebekka Schultz and I¿¿m going into my third year of Political Science and History Studies. Last fall (2014) I was going through a very difficult time. The summer of 2014 I had experienced my first familial death followed by my second familial death one short month following. My first familial death was my grandfather who I had lived with for 18 years. He was suffering from dementia and cancer of the mouth. I was his aide on my time away from school. This was a very hard loss for my because I was unable to grieve shortly after he passed because I knew he was at peace. My second familial death was my Grandmother from the other side of the family who suffered from a massive stroke exactly one moth after my grandfather. This death was very hard for me because I found her the morning after she had suffered the massive stroke. I was her only grandchild and was staying with her at her cottage for the summer. These two deaths have really impacted my life because I had never experienced the death of a loved one up until last summer. Due to the cause that this had happened so suddenly and so close together, I was unable to grieve at the time because it felt so surreal. However, moving away from home and attending Queens University perhaps triggered my grievance because I felt secluded from my family. Due to this, my first semester I went home every weekend so that I could be with my family and my other Grandmother who was in need of more assistance. I did not want this to stop me from finishing my second year at Queens because I knew that I was capable of completing it successfully. I attended grievance counselling on campus and felt as though it was not helping. Shortly after, I went to my family doctor to speak to her about my anxiety and grievance from being so far away from home. She gave me helpful advice and tips on how to cope with my grievance and anxiety. I believe that my Doctors advice did help me because my grades and ability to cope in second semester prove this to be true. I would really appreciate it if my grades could be appealed from fall term of 2014. Thank you for your time.

Kind Regards,
Rebekka Schultz
