Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello there! Im writing to request a late withdrawal from the course due to family issues. In the weeks leading up to the course withdrawal deadline, my parents began going through a sudden and difficult divorce because my father will be moving out soon with his mistress and when my mother found out, that created a lot of tension within my family. This placed a great deal of emotional and practical responsibility on me. The situation escalated quickly and required my constant attention, leaving me unable to maintain my usual level of academic focus and performance. The fighting started around 2 weeks ago and is still going on as of right now, i had to go home this weekend to be there to support my 2 other siblings that live at home because there's also some violence happening (things thrown around the home, swearing, etc). I initially thought I would be able to manage my coursework once things settled but the situation continued longer than expected, and the ongoing stress made it difficult for me to concentrate and keep up with required course work. By the time I realized I could not continue successfully in the class, the deadline to drop had already passed since i have 5 exams and i realized that i would not have the mental capacity to study for all 5. Ive found it very hard to try and focus and spend all my time towards my studies but i also have to be there for my mom and my other family members since this is a very difficul situation for everyione. I completly agree that i could have simply checked the drop class deadline but my mind was very cluttered at that time so the thought completly missed me until today when i realized that i might end up failing this course, and i chose it as a elective. As well things have been particularly hard since my father is the one responsible paying for my tuition but since he's leaving its up to me and my mother to try and find a way to pay my tuition so ive also been busy trying to find good scholarships. This situation deeply disrupted my ability to function academically. I struggled to complete assignments and stay fully engaged in the course. Thank you for your time!
