Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Dorit Naaman,
I am petitioning for a late course drop for all of the courses I was enrolled in past the drop date, regarding the Fall 2025 Term. This includes CISC203, CISC204, MATH121, STAT263, PSYC271, and PHIL251.
At the beginning of November I experienced a severe mental health crisis that led to a hospitalization at Kingston General Hospital from November 3 to November 11. At the time of the hospitalization I applied for academic consideration in each of my courses and was granted it by the Academic Consideration team. However, after I returned home the severity of my situation sank in. Not only had I missed multiple weeks of class to this ordeal and had tons of missed deliverables to submit with only three weeks until exam season, but I was also in a very fragile mental state. While I was discharged from hospital, I was given a diagnosis that requires further treatment. I have begun treatment and I am hopeful for my recovery, but as it stands, the nature of my illness is still severe. I spoke with my psychiatrist, who believes that in the best interest of my recovery, I should cease academics for the remainder of the semester.
I want to stress that I am taking significant steps to treat this issue, and am confident in my ability to succeed in future semesters. I am saddened by the idea that I could not complete my work for these classes, and I would love to be able to take them in the summer or next winter semester. I am asking for a late drop so that this can be possible without impacting my final transcript.
I have attached two documents with this letter. The first is a letter from a psychiatrist at Kingston General Hospital detailing my hospitalization timeline. The second is a letter from a psychiatrist at Hotel Dieu, who expressed the opinion that I should not complete the semester.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and to express my gratitude for the amount of student support offered at Queens.
Sincerely,
Isabela Rodrigues Guerrero (20458542)
