Petition Letter: December 11th, 2025
Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I am petitioning to late drop MATH 120, FILM 111, SPANISH 111(Fall, 2025). Starting in summer of 2025 I started experiencing acute mental health issues, these deeply impacted my ability to attend class, concentrate and complete my work to my full potential. I had multiple hospital visits throughout the semester due to mental health. I also struggled with an ongoing domestic violence situation which contributed to my mental health concerns and ability to focus on school. One of the biggest impacts was that I really struggled to leave my dorm room to attend class, I tried to keep up with the work on my own, but I missed too many classes, and it became extremely difficult. I was extremely distracted and struggled to get out of bed, making it really hard to keep up with the work and focus on my studies.
Right before the end of the fall classes I also dropped PHYSICS 104 for the same reasons. I thought that I could manage these three classes, but my mental health issues have increased over the last few weeks making it impossible for me to move forward with them. I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from school for the time being to focus on my mental health and wellness. While away I plan to make a care plan with my doctor, as well as regularly see a therapist. It will also give me the ability to be home with my family in a supportive environment.
Throughout the semester I worked with SVPRS and Care services, as well as my family doctor. Although I was trying to access support to improve my situation, I have come to realize that I need more intensive support outside of what the University can provide me. I am making this decision to late drop my courses and take a leave with their full support. I am hoping to return to my studies in the future.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I appreciate you taking the time to consider this appeal.
Sincerely,
Jessie Osmond (20544477)
