Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I am Razdeel Rezwan, and I would like to submit a petition to late drop these courses that I had taken during my fall semester of my first academic year, which was the academic year of 2024-2025, at Queen’s University: HIST110, DEVS101, and MATH126. The courses of HIST110 and DEVS101 were single-semester courses taken during the fall semester, and the MATH126 course was a full-year course that started in the fall semester and ended in the winter semester; for brevity, I will refer to these three courses as fall semester courses, as they all started in the fall semester. For clarification, the fall semester of the academic year 2024-2025 was in 2024, and the winter semester of the academic year 2024-2025 was in 2025.
This is because during my first year at Queen’s University at Kingston, I went through some personal, extenuating circumstances that severely affected my mental health, and, as a result, my studies, academics, and grades were also affected. Until the end of October, I did not even have access to a therapist or psychologist, nor did I have any access to any information or any other support services, especially at Queen’s. Then, later on, by the end of the fall semester and the start of the winter semester, I was able to get academic accommodations, which helped me to catch up with my academics. I was also only able to get access to any mental healthcare professional much later, when my mental health started improving, but not during the fall semester. However, since I have access to mental healthcare professionals now, as well as academic accommodations, I will be able to manage my symptoms better. I was also not able to drop these courses earlier during my term because I did not know that it was possible to drop courses after the September 15 deadline for the fall semester, I did not have access to an academic advisor who could guide me during the process, and I feared that dropping this many courses would have hampered my status as a full-time student, as well as believing that I could have passed these courses. Hence, I would like to drop these courses from my fall semester, as it would help get me off academic probation and improve my cGPA, and also, I have been continuously improving my grades on courses since that semester; hence, I believe my academic failures in these courses do not reflect my true potential.
I will provide supporting documentation that attests to my situation and circumstances later.
I humbly await your response.
Kind regards,
Razdeel Rezwan
