Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to formally submit a petition for a late course withdrawal from PSYC 271 (Brain & Behaviour) for the Fall 2025 term.

During the past semester, I experienced significant mental health challenges that made it difficult to maintain my standard of academic performance. These issues culminated during the final examination, where an acute panic attack prevented me from completing the assessment. I have already reached out to the course instructor, Professor Poppenk, to inform him of this medical incident and the circumstances surrounding my performance.

Reflecting on this experience has helped me realize that this subject area does not align with my long-term career interests as I once thought. I am now focusing my efforts on a different academic path that better suits my strengths.

However, my ability to pursue my future goals is currently at risk. I am planning to apply for a University Exchange Program, which requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8. Allowing the results of this specific course to remain on my transcript would bring my GPA below this threshold, solely due to the extenuating health circumstances I faced during the exam.

I am requesting this late withdrawal so that my academic record can accurately reflect my capabilities, allowing me to remain eligible for the exchange program and move forward with my studies. I am happy to provide medical documentation or additional details regarding my communication with the professor if you need them.

Thank you for your time and for considering my petition.
