To whom it may concern,
I am writing to you today to formally submit a petition to late withdrawal from the course Animal Physiology, BIOL 339 due to extenuating psychological circumstances that have significantly impacted my academic performance.
During the period of this Fall term course I have been experiencing severe and persistent anxiety directly related to the academic demands of this course. This anxiety has gone beyond normal academic stress and has begun to interfere severely with my day-to-day tasks, causing me to have frequent anxiety and panic attacks. At the time, I was focused on managing day-to-day functioning along with trying to stabilize my mental health, which limited my capacity to recognize the full academic impact of my condition. Despite my efforts to manage these challenges independently, the intensity of my anxiety continued to escalate.
Due to the severity of the symptoms I am experiencing I sought assistance at the same-day Mental Health Therapy Clinic at the Student Wellness Centre to discuss my anxiety and to assist in calming myself during a particularly overwhelming period. While this visit provided temporary relief and support, my anxiety has unfortunately persisted even after seeking professional assistance. The ongoing nature of these symptoms has continued to affect my mental well-being and academic functioning.
I would like to emphasize my deep commitment to my education. The difficulties I am facing are not due to a lack of effort or motivation, but rather the significant impact that my mental health challenges are causing.
At the time of the withdrawal period, I made a genuine and sustained effort to remain enrolled and to see the course out, believing that with continued effort and support through some online counseling my condition might improve. I attempted to keep up with coursework and meet academic expectations to the best of my ability rather than withdraw prematurely. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, my anxiety persisted and continued to worsen, ultimately making it clear that my academic performance had been significantly compromised.
I respectfully ask the review committee to take these circumstances into consideration when reviewing my petition. I am actively taking steps to address my anxiety and mental health challenges and am committed to improving my well-being so that I can continue my studies successfully moving forward.
Thank you very much for your time, understanding, and consideration.
