Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Petition Review Committee,
I am writing to submit this petition based on an extenuating circumstance that negatively affected my academic performance during the Winter 2024 term.
In mid February 2024 (February 13–14), my grandmother became seriously ill and was hospitalized. Her condition worsened over the following weeks, and she passed away on March 23rd, 2024. This period was very emotionally challenging as my family and I navigated her sudden illness and loss. These circumstances impacted my ability to focus, manage academics, and perform.
The effects were very significant from mid-February through late April 2024, which align with a demanding academic period involving midterms, large assignments, and examinations. During this time, I struggled with concentration and maintaining deadlines, which resulted in a decline in my academic performance in affected courses.
Despite these challenges, I continued attending classes and completing coursework when possible. However, the unexpected and prolonged nature of the situation limited my ability to fully manage my academics. Following my grandmother’s passing, I have regained stability and returned to my normal level of academic performance.
I ask the Committee to consider these extenuating circumstances when reviewing my petition. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Sydney Sinclair
