Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to formally submit a petition requesting a Consideration Request (CR) for
HLTH 200 in the Fall 2025 term.
During the term, I experienced challenges beyond my control that significantly affected my ability to keep up with
academic responsibilities. These challenges began in the last week of October and continued through November and into early December, disrupting my ability to concentrate, manage time effectively, and sustain consistent academic performance. During November 5–7, 2025 I submitted and received Short-Term Academic Consideration due to the severity of this disruption was such that I required academic consideration for CISC 124, which reflects the extent to which my academic functioning was affected during this period.
While these circumstances affected multiple courses, HLTH 200 was impacted most significantly due to the
structure and demands of the course. HLTH 200 required consistent weekly deadlines such as labs, reflections, and ongoing engagement, leaving little flexibility during a period when my capacity to function academically was reduced. The continuous nature of the workload made it particularly difficult to recover from missed work or regain momentum and caused more dysfunctioning and stress over the future of the course. Throughout the term, I frequently emailed the instructor to ask questions and seek clarification due to the high level of stress I was experiencing; however, I did not disclose the full extent of my situation at the time.
In addition, the learning style and content of HLTH 200 do not align closely with my academic strengths. As a
Computing student, I generally perform more effectively in structured, technical courses where concepts build upon
prior knowledge. Even under normal circumstances, HLTH 200 required greater cognitive effort for me compared to
my CISC courses. During this period of heightened stress and limited functioning, I was only able to complete
academic work in small amounts at a time. While my performance in CISC 203 was also affected, I was still able to
rely on continuity of knowledge from prior computing coursework to remain partially engaged. HLTH 200 did not
provide that same continuity, and the combination of course structure and extenuating circumstances resulted in
performance that does not accurately reflect my effort or academic ability.
I have taken steps to address these circumstances by seeking professional support, and I am submitting
documentation that confirms the impact of these challenges during the relevant time period. Moving forward, I have
taken steps to strengthen my academic routines and approach to workload management. I am confident that these
changes will support stronger and more consistent academic performance moving forward.
Thank you for your time, energy and consideration.
Sincerely,
Pelin Mete
