Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean,
My name is Sierra Brown, student number 20369553. I am petitioning with the hope to enrol in PSYC 305 (Winter, 2026) after the deadline to do so of January 16th.
I am currently taking the BA in Psychology online degree and am only missing one online psychology course to graduate. I was unable to add the course prior to the deadline as the class was full but had added it to the shopping cart in SOLUS and was checking in periodically in case any spots became available. Upon checking on Saturday January 17th, I noticed that there was one spot available but realized that I was a day late to enrol. As such, I spoke to an Academic Advisor this morning (January 19th) and was advised to reach out to the instructor of this course to request a letter supporting my enrolment and to petition this with yourself.
I was previously enrolled in PSYC370 (Fall, 2025) but was unable to fulfill the requirements of this course due to ongoing illness, issues in the workplace, extreme fatigue because of pregnancy, and parenting a 3-year-old son. I did attempt to seek accommodations during this period but found myself extremely overwhelmed and burnt out. I have since gone on leave from work and have found further support in the family with childcare moving into this semester.
Given that I have only one course left to graduate and that there is limited availability for online courses to complete my degree at this time, I am hoping that you would be willing to accommodate my enrolment in PSYC 305. I have spoken with the course instructor, Valerie Kuhlmeier (vk4@queensu.ca) via email this morning, and was informed that it would not be too late for me to enrol and succeed academically at this time. I am making every effort to practice appropriate stress management techniques and gain support from those around me at this time and would benefit extensively from being able to complete my degree by taking this course.
