Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to formally request academic consideration regarding two courses affected by the Winter 2025 TA strike: MATH 112 and IDIS 173. In MATH 112, I was performing relatively well throughout the term; however, due to the strike, we received no preparation support for the final exam. Also the format differed from what was communicated and significantly impacted my performance. Grading was changed to multiple choice which I found particularly difficult in a quantitative class such as math where just a simple error could result in question completely wrong and not receiving even any part marks. In IDIS 173, I submitted an assignment late with the understanding that additional assessments would contribute to my final grade, but due to strike-related disruptions, several components were later removed and the grading scheme was unexpectedly re-weighted. These academic disruptions were beyond my control, and I am therefore kindly requesting that both courses be converted to Credit Received (CR) as it would truly benefit me greatly in my employment search.

I am requesting this accommodation because these grades have a disproportionate impact on my academic record and future opportunities. I am currently applying for competitive internships, including finance- and research-oriented positions, and some organizations have already expressed interest and requested transcripts. Additionally, I plan to pursue graduate studies, for which cumulative GPA is an important consideration. The circumstances surrounding these two courses do not accurately reflect my academic ability or overall performance, and I believe that converting them to CR would be a fair and reasonable resolution given the exceptional circumstances of the term.
