Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am applying to submit an appeal to request an extension of an incomplete grade (CISC 101) due to extreme circumstances that are out of my control. In January I suffered a concussion which I am still recovering from; which is why this course got an incomplete in the first place. I am recovering from my concussion but since I was not able to write any exams I have two courses I still have to finish. i have decided to write my exam for my other course that is incomplete; it is a course that is worth 6 credits so I wanted to get that one out of the way before my classes begin this fall. I have improved great since my concussion at the beginning of January but am still not up to my full ability of cognitive functioning. I would not be able to study for both exams and be convinced that I did the best to my ability. My doctor has advised me to write one exam now and defer the other. I am planning to write my CISC 101 exam shortly after thanksgiving so that I will have the time I need to study and prepare for it so I feel like I can preform at my best. Along with my concussion I also suffer from depression and anxiety and sleep issues. I am seeing my doctor and psychologist regularly and I am also on a few different medications to help with these issues; I am doing a lot better then I have been since I started my time at Queen's in the fall of 2013 and I am concerned that if I do attempt to write my exam now I will only set myself back from where I have worked all summer to get to. There are notes in my file about my depression and my anxiety as it has caused me to appeal to drop courses and appeal to get CR standing for a few of my past courses. I am still recovering from my concussion and will be continued to be monitored by doctors until I am better; I have been told I am well enough to go back to school, this past summer has been spent going to see all different types of doctors to ensure I get better as quickly as possible. as a concussion is a injury to the brain it is very important that it heals so there is no permanent damage. The doctors I have seen this summer include my family doctor, a neurosurgeon, a acupuncturist, a psychologist, and an osteopath. All have said that I have made a lot of progress this summer but there is still progress that needs to be made before I am fully healed. I have attached a note from my family doctor requesting to extend my CISC 101 incomplete grade.
