Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I was successfully enrolled in Part A of PHYS 106 in the fall, and Part B was supposed to be automatically added to my SOLUS account. However, this did not occur, even though I am still enrolled in the course on OnQ. I spoke with an academic advisor about this issue, and they informed me that it appears to be a problem within the Faculty of Arts and Science rather than an error on my end.

While organizing my schedule during the first week of classes, I noticed that my PHYS 106 lectures completely overlap with all of my CHEM 222 lectures, as well as one of my MATH225 lectures. I wanted to find a solution that would allow me to remain enrolled in my required courses. As a result, I dropped the math course since it is available online in the summer, but I did not drop CHEM 222 since it is a core requirement for my degree and a prerequisite for courses I must take next fall.

Although SOLUS does not currently reflect my enrollment correctly, I am enrolled on OnQ and have been attending all Physics 106 labs/tutorial sessions since the first week of classes. I have also been completing all required weekly assignments and have been keeping up with the lecture content. I have emailed both professors involved to inform them of my situation.

At the moment, I have been attending a lab section on Mondays for Physics 106. However, due to adding another course to replace the dropped math class, which has a lab scheduled only on Mondays, I would need to switch into a PHYS 106 lab section held on Tuesdays instead. I mentioned this to my TA on Monday and she said she let the head TA know about it. Switching lab sections wouldn't cause me to be behind in any way as I have still been attending them previously, I would just be switching to a different day and working with another group.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: If this request is not approved, I would be required to retake the entirety of Physics 106, which would be frustrating given that I have already completed approximately 50% of the course and am currently performing well. I have consistently kept up with the coursework and am not behind on the material.

There are also several academic supports available to ensure my continued success in the course, including the Physics Help Desk, which runs multiple times per week. In addition, I regularly study with classmates and can access shared notes from peers in both the Physics and Chemistry courses since scheduling conflicts require me to attend one class instead of the other.

Overall, I am confident that I can continue to meet the academic expectations of Physics 106 while remaining enrolled in my required Chemistry course.
