Petition Letter: I am writing to formally petition for late enrollment in ECON 411 and ECON 425 for the current Winter term.
The need for this petition arises from an unusual academic event beyond my control, namely a deferred final examination from the previous term. Because my academic standing could not be confirmed until the deferred exam was written and graded, I was unable to enroll in these Winter term courses prior to the add-drop deadline. The delay was directly linked to the timing of the deferred examination process and the subsequent release of my final grade, rather than any lack of preparation or engagement on my part.
This situation affected my ability to complete course enrollment during the standard enrollment period. The deferred exam process extended into the beginning of the Winter term, which prevented me from enrolling in required courses once registration reopened. As a result, I was unable to formally join ECON 411 and ECON 425 despite my intention to do so.
During this period, I took steps to mitigate the academic impact of the delayed enrollment. I remained in close communication with the Department of Economics and the course instructors, and I have received the course syllabi from Professor Wang (ECON 411) and Professor Lapham (ECON 425). I reviewed the course structures, expectations, and materials independently in order to stay aligned with the courses while awaiting resolution of my enrollment status.
Both instructors are aware of my circumstances, and the Department of Economics, including the Undergraduate Office and Department Chair Ian Keay, has indicated its support for my petition for late enrollment. I understand that final approval rests with the Faculty, and I am prepared to submit supporting documentation, including relevant email correspondence, as part of this petition.
Enrollment in ECON 411 and ECON 425 is required for completion of my Honours Economics program, and enrollment this term is essential to maintaining my academic progression and planned graduation timeline. I am fully committed to completing any missed coursework, meeting attendance and participation requirements, and ensuring that my late entry does not disrupt the learning environment.
I respectfully request your consideration of this petition and the opportunity to enroll in ECON 411 and ECON 425. I am confident that, given the steps I have taken to remain engaged and the support of the department and instructors, I will be able to complete the term successfully.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: If my petition for late enrollment is granted, I have a clear and structured plan to ensure academic success in ECON 411 and ECON 425 for the remainder of the Winter term.
The extenuating circumstance that delayed my enrollment a deferred final examination was temporary and has now been resolved. As a result, there are no ongoing personal or academic barriers that would affect my ability to fully participate in and complete these courses. My focus moving forward is on reintegrating smoothly into the term and maintaining consistent academic engagement.
I am currently transitioning from the BA (Regular) Economics program to the BA (Honours) Economics program, and enrollment in ECON 411 and ECON 425 is required to meet the academic requirements of the Honours degree. Successful completion of these courses this term is therefore essential to my academic progression and planned graduation timeline.
To support my success, I have already taken proactive steps to prepare. I have obtained and reviewed the course syllabi for both ECON 411 and ECON 425 from the instructors and familiarized myself with course expectations, assessment structures, and required materials. Upon enrollment, I will attend all remaining lectures regularly and comply fully with attendance and participation requirements.
My academic plan includes:
Reviewing all lecture slides and assigned readings from the beginning of the term to ensure full coverage of missed material. Completing any outstanding or deferred assignments in consultation with the instructors. Attending office hours and seeking clarification promptly when needed. Maintaining a structured weekly study schedule dedicated specifically to these courses. Both instructors are aware of my situation and have provided guidance on how to remain aligned with the course progression. I will continue to communicate with them to ensure that my late entry does not negatively affect my performance or the learning environment.
