Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to request permission to enroll late in ECON 256 following the release of my deferred final exam grade for the prerequisite course.
Due to unforeseen academic circumstances beyond my control, I was required to write a deferred final examination for the prerequisite course to ECON 256. While I performed strongly throughout the term in all other components of the course, the outcome of the deferred exam resulted in a failing final grade. This delayed result prevented me from enrolling in ECON 256 before the add/drop deadline.
The timing of the deferred exam and the subsequent grade release directly impacted my ability to register for this course on time. ECON 256 is a required prerequisite for multiple upper-year courses in my major, and not being enrolled this term would significantly delay my academic progression and put me behind in my degree plan.
I have already contacted the course instructor for ECON 256, and he has confirmed that he is willing to allow me to join the class late. I am fully committed to catching up on all missed lectures, readings, and assignments and ensuring that my performance in the course is not compromised.
I respectfully request permission to enroll late in ECON 256 so that I may continue progressing in my program without further delay. I appreciate your time and consideration of my petition and would be grateful for the opportunity to proceed with my studies as planned.
Thank you for your understanding.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: If my petition is granted and I am permitted to join ECON 256 late, I have a clear and structured plan to catch up on the course material and ensure academic success.
Immediately upon enrollment, I will review all missed lectures by watching posted recordings and carefully working through the corresponding readings and lecture notes. I will create a catch-up schedule to complete this material within the first one to two weeks of joining the course so that I am aligned with the current pace of the class.
I will prioritize ECON 256 in my weekly schedule by setting aside dedicated study time each week for problem sets, review, and exam preparation. I plan to actively attend lectures, participate in tutorials, and seek clarification early if I encounter difficulties with the material. Additionally, I will make use of instructor and TA office hours and any academic support resources available through the department.
Based on my strong performance in previous coursework outside of the deferred exam, I am confident in my ability to succeed in this course with consistent effort and proactive engagement. I am committed to maintaining strong study habits, staying up to date with all assessments, and ensuring that I pass the course successfully this term.
This plan will allow me to remain on track in my academic program and continue progressing toward my degree requirements.
