Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to formally submit a petition requesting permission to enroll in two courses past the enrollment deadline and to support my transition from Life Sciences to an academic path in Music and Drama. This petition is based on extenuating psychological circumstances beyond my control that directly affected my academic decision making, ability to act within deadlines, and overall wellbeing during the weeks surrounding course enrollment.
My mental health experienced a major crisis during the previous month which affected my ability to concentrate, my emotional control and my ability to handle schoolwork responsibilities. During this time period, my anxiety was heightened which stopped me from choosing academic directions and from dealing with important situations promptly. Although still enrolled in univeristy and attending my classes still made it impossible for me to complete enrollment changes and petition submissions before their deadlines. The ongoing problems persisted after the deadline so I could not start this petition at an earlier time.
The work delays extended past the original projected timeline which had been established for these situations. The situation also impacted my academic direction confidence and it blocked my path to select a proper academic program. My much improved mental state allowed me to evaluate my academic journey which revealed that Life Sciences did not match my personal interests or my learning approach or my career goals. Music and Drama remain my strongest subjects because I always find myself motivated and capable while deeply involved in these subjects and my return to this field has brought academic success and better personal health.
Once I was able to do so, I took immediate steps to address the situation. I contacted the professors who teach my wanted courses (FILM 112 and MUSC 112) to explain to them my academic situation and my commitment to taking their classes. The approval for this petition request came from them so I discussed my strategy to complete all outstanding schoolwork with them. I have been attending both courses' lectures and tutorials since the beginning because I want to stay connected with all course content and requirements.
I understand the importance of academic deadlines and take responsibility for this request. At the same time, I hope the committee will consider the sustained nature of the psychological challenges I experienced and how they directly prevented me from acting within the required timeframe. I am now in a much stronger position mentally and academically, and I am confident that this academic redirection will allow me to succeed and remain fully engaged in my studies.
Thank you for your time and consideration of my petition. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to explain my circumstances and would be grateful for permission to proceed with enrollment and continue my studies in a program that aligns with both my academic goals and wellbeing.

Sincerely,
Emilie Naimark

New Information: I do not have any physical documentation indicating my mental challenges faced from a specific event, which prevented me from completing matters by the deadline, though I do have email proof of approval to join both FILM 112 and MUSC 112 from both profs which I can show at any given time.
