Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Faculty of Arts and Science Appeals Committee,
I am writing to formally request an extension on my deferred examination due to significant mental health challenges beyond my control that directly affected my academic performance.
I am a student registered with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) for ongoing mental health related accommodations. During the period surrounding the scheduled deferred examination, my mental health significantly worsened, resulting in increased difficulty with concentration, stress regulation, and sustained cognitive functioning. These challenges occurred during a critical academic period and substantially interfered with my ability to prepare for and complete the examination under standard conditions.
As a result of these circumstances, I was unable to adequately prepare for or write the deferred examination at the scheduled time. The impact of my mental health during this period prevented me from demonstrating my academic knowledge and abilities in a fair and accurate manner.
In response to these challenges, I took steps to address my mental health and stabilize my condition, including engaging with appropriate supports. Supporting documentation has been provided, and my registration with QSAS reflects the ongoing nature of these challenges and their impact on my academic functioning.
I remain committed to my academic progress and to completing my degree requirements. I am requesting this extension so that I may complete the deferred examination under conditions that appropriately reflect my circumstances and allow for an equitable assessment of my academic performance.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Ruth Osunde
