Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Academic Petitions & Appeals Office, I am submitting this petition to request a review and remedy regarding the grade of 0 I received on an assignment due January 27, 2026 in CISC 101 taught by Rawan El Khatib. The 0 was issued because the assignment was not submitted through OnQ; however, I attempted to submit it before the deadline and was unable to complete the submission due to a technical issue with OnQ.
On January 27, 2026, I attempted to upload and submit the assignment on OnQ before the deadline, but the submission would not go through. Because the platform was not allowing me to submit, I contacted the instructor by email before the deadline to document that I was experiencing a submission problem. I then sent a second email with the completed assignment attached so it would be clear that the work was finished on time. Despite these steps, I was later informed that email submissions are not accepted and that no submissions are accepted after the end of the grace period, and the assignment was assigned a grade of 0.
I understand and respect the course policy that assignments must be submitted through OnQ and that email submissions are not normally accepted. My request is not to bypass that policy as a general rule, but to ask that this situation be considered as a documented technical submission failure where I acted in good faith, attempted to meet the deadline using the required platform, and immediately notified the instructor when the platform prevented submission. A grade of 0 in this case reflects a technical barrier rather than incomplete work or a late submission.
I am prepared to provide documentation supporting this petition, including the timestamps of the emails sent before the deadline, the completed assignment file as it existed at the time (including file metadata/last modified time), and any screenshots or details of the OnQ submission issue if available. If required, I can also provide or obtain an OnQ/IT support ticket reference to document the technical problem. I respectfully request that the Faculty grant appropriate relief, such as allowing the assignment to be graded based on the completed version that was finished on time, or another remedy the Faculty deems fair given the circumstances.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am happy to provide any additional information that would help with the review of this petition. Sincerely, Isaac Dawson, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) – Economics (BAH), 20492077, 24rkp@queensu.ca.
