Petition Letter: Dear Committee,
I am writing to explain the situation that affected my academic performance in the Fall 2024 term and to request permission to drop two courses from that semester.
In 2021, I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and moderate anxiety disorder. During that time, I also suffered from gastritis, which caused frequent stomach pain. After treatment, my condition improved and became more stable.
However, in 2023, I entered a program that I had hoped to pursue. The courses were much more difficult than I expected, and the academic pressure became very high. Because of this pressure, my anxiety symptoms returned. At the same time, my gastritis also relapsed due to stress.
The anxiety and stomach pain made it very difficult for me to concentrate on my studies. I often felt exhausted and could not focus for long periods of time. My ability to complete coursework and keep up with assignments became worse during the semester.
During the Fall 2024 term, I realized that my mental health condition made it very difficult for me to complete these two courses successfully. Because of this situation, I am requesting to drop these courses from my academic record.
After recognizing that my health condition was affecting my studies, I also made the decision to change my program to reduce academic pressure and choose a field that better fits my abilities and health situation.
By the end of the Fall 2024 term, my condition became more serious. I decided to return to my home country to receive medical evaluation and treatment. Because of these health problems, I was not able to complete my coursework normally.
After returning home, I have been receiving medical care and follow-up treatment for both my anxiety and gastritis. Medical documents from my doctors are included to support my condition.
These health issues were beyond my control, and they had a direct effect on my academic performance. I sincerely hope the committee can consider my medical situation when reviewing my request.
