Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to request a waiver of the petition deadline and to formally request consideration for a tuition refund for the courses I was enrolled in during the Fall 2025 semester due to extenuating circumstances that significantly impacted my physical and mental health.
I was unable to submit this request earlier because my health and safety required immediate attention during and following the term in question. My priority at the time was managing acute health concerns, which limited my ability to engage with academic or administrative processes.
During this period, I experienced a significant personal life event which ultimately led to severe psychological distress. Concurrently, I was dealing with serious mental health challenges, including suicidal ideation, and required multiple hospital visits for my safety and stabilization. I was also experiencing physical illness during this time.
These combined circumstances resulted in a significant impairment in my ability to function academically and in daily life. I struggled with concentration, attendance, completing coursework, and meeting deadlines. At times, I was unable to carry out basic daily responsibilities or maintain a consistent routine. As a result, I was unable to meaningfully participate in or benefit from my courses during this term.
The impact extended beyond academics and significantly affected my overall functioning, including my ability to seek timely support or navigate university procedures.
Since that time, I have taken steps toward stabilization and recovery. I am currently working with my counsellor, Laurie Hooke, and engaging with medical support through my family doctor and relevant specialists to address both my mental and physical health. I am also planning to reduce my course load and access academic supports such as tutoring and student accessibility services (SASS/QSAS) to better support my success moving forward.
Given the severity and documented nature of these circumstances, I respectfully request consideration for a waiver of the petition deadline and approval of a tuition refund (or other appropriate financial relief) for the affected term.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Raisa Rahman
