Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally request retroactive academic consideration for the Fall semester due to significant extenuating circumstances that severely impacted my academic performance during that time.
Over the past few years, I have experienced a combination of personal and medical challenges that were not fully understood or addressed at the time. Without a stable support system while navigating university. A major factor has been the loss of my father, as a result, I have been largely independent, managing both academic and personal responsibilities without consistent support.
In addition, I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) this semester, after a long period of struggling with symptoms that were previously undiagnosed. These conditions had a substantial impact on my ability to focus, manage time, meet deadlines, and perform academically. At the time of the affected semester, I could not receive treatment or accommodations, despite experiencing ongoing difficulties.
I had been on a waiting list to receive assessment and support, which was part of my effort to address these challenges. Unfortunately delay in diagnosis and treatment meant that my academic performance during that period does not accurately reflect my abilities or my potential under appropriate medical support and accommodations.
These grades have also contributed to my current academic probation status and, in their current form, significantly limit my ability to demonstrate meaningful academic recovery, even as my circumstances have now changed.
Since receiving my diagnoses, I have begun treatment, including medication, and have taken steps to access academic support services. I am already noticing improvements in my ability to manage coursework and responsibilities, and I am committed to continuing this progress moving forward.
Given these circumstances, I respectfully request retroactive withdrawal or other appropriate academic relief for the Fall semester. I believe this would allow my academic record to more accurately reflect my situation during that time and provide a fair opportunity to rebuild my academic standing under my current, improved circumstances.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be heard and to continue working toward my academic goals with the appropriate support now in place.
Sincerely,
Isabella Garrido
