Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (Academic),
I am petitioning to request a further extension of an exam deferral for CISC 102 (Fall, 2025).
I was granted a previous extension of exam deferral for this course in February due to being ill when it was originally scheduled on January 18.
After my petition was accepted, I contacted my professor, Dr. Erin Meger, and she got me in contact with Nicole Clarey, the VLP Administrative Assistant, who scheduled my deferred exam for March 13 at 9am. I was unable to attend this scheduled time, as I was notified it was scheduled for this time on the afternoon of the 11th, and I had already made plans to go home for a visit on Thursday evening, the 12th. I made plans to visit home for Friday and the weekend as my mom was leaving for an international trip the following week and would be out of the country for two to three months. I visited home so I could spend some time with my parents, and say goodbye to my mom in person.
My deferred exam was then rescheduled for March 19th at 9am by Nicole. I was unable to attend this scheduled time as I felt ill when I woke up on Wednesday the 18th, and was experiencing cold/flu symptoms for a few days. I contacted Nicole and she rescheduled me for March 26th at 9am. I am unable to attend this further rescheduling as I am currently experiencing a flare up of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). I have been experiencing severe stomach pain and discomfort, along with having to visit the bathroom very frequently. When I contacted Nicole to reschedule again, she told me she had to get the authorization of Dr. Meger. Dr. Meger informed me that since the deferred exam was allowed through a petition, I must petition again with these further details of why I had to reschedule.
My plan for future academic success is to stay healthy and eat well so I do not fall ill with a cold/flu. Along with continuing to be careful in what I eat and avoiding foods that I know may upset my stomach and my IBS. The management of my health around these extenuating circumstances will help support my academic goals of being able to write my deferred exam, move ahead with my academics, and finish this academic year strongly.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
