Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing to petition for the late drop of classes I took during the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 semesters. Specifically, GEOL104, GPHY101, GPHY243, MATH381, STAT 161, ARTF125, ASTR101, and STAT362. I struggled with my mental health tremendously last year, typically occurring in cycles that coincided with the end of the semester. I found myself extremely depressed, unable to leave my bed or focus on any academic responsibility. Because of this, I could not even find the energy to drop the classes before the end of term deadline despite knowing it was probably in my best interest. This has resulted in my being placed on academic probation and, although I gained some credits last semester, I am worried that after this semester I may be required to withdraw despite being just two classes away from graduation. I am working with my doctor and am confident in my performance in this semester and my ability to improve. I understand that I am petitioning Fall 2024 classes past the deadline, as is reflected in my supporting documentation, but it has taken me a lot to overcome the shame I have about this aspect of myself and to submit this petition, and I would sincerely appreciate if any leniency could be granted.
