Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to request a compassionate (late) withdrawal from CHEM 112 for the Fall/Winter Term, ARTH 122 and CISC 151 for the Winter term.

During this term, I experienced ongoing challenges related to my registered disability, which significantly affected my academic performance. These challenges were further exacerbated by a period of hospitalization for an unrelated medical issue during the semester, which intensified the impact of my disability and made it more difficult to manage my coursework.

These difficulties began early in the semester and persisted throughout, becoming more pronounced during the middle and latter part of the term as coursework demands increased.

As a result of these extenuating circumstances, I experienced difficulty with focus, organization, and maintaining consistent engagement with my courses. This directly impacted my ability to meet course requirements and deadlines.

In CHEM 112B, I was unable to attend and complete mandatory lab components, which are required to pass the course. My inability to consistently manage my schedule and meet these fixed requirements was directly affected by my disability during this period. In my Art History course, I was unable to complete and submit multiple assignments, as I struggled to keep up with deadlines and coursework expectations.

These difficulties were not isolated to a single week but occurred over an extended period of time, particularly during the second half of the semester following my hospitalization. As coursework accumulated, the impact of my disability intensified, leading to a decline in my academic performance and preventing me from successfully completing these courses.

I am currently registered with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS), and I have been working to address these challenges. I have sought support and am taking steps to better manage my academic responsibilities moving forward, including planning to retake the affected courses under improved circumstances and with appropriate supports in place.

Given the extent and duration of these extenuating circumstances, and their direct impact on my ability to complete required coursework, I am requesting a compassionate withdrawal so that my transcript more accurately reflects the impact of these factors during this term.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
