Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to formally request permission to withdraw from ARTH 122 due to extenuating health circumstances that significantly impacted my ability to complete key components of the course this semester.

Throughout the term, I experienced serious health challenges that interfered with my academic performance. These circumstances have been formally assessed and approved as long-term and severe. I have also maintained communication with my instructors regarding my situation, and they have been understanding and accommodating throughout this period. Despite these efforts, I was unable to attend and complete several in-person course components, which together account for approximately 40% of the final grade. Given this weighting, it is unlikely that I would be able to achieve a grade reflective of my academic capabilities, and remaining enrolled would have a disproportionate negative impact on my GPA.

In addition, the medication I was prescribed during this period caused significant side effects that further limited my ability to complete coursework, particularly during the intervals between my documented medical notes. These combined factors made it extremely difficult to maintain consistent academic engagement.

I had frequent communication with both my instructors for this course, including before the April 7th deadline, but I had misunderstood that I wouldn't be able to complete the 40% portion of the coursework, rather supplementing for 60% of my grade. So, I had not dropped this course under the wrong assumption I would be able to fully complete all the missing components.
