Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to respectfully petition for academic relief in relation to the failed courses on my transcript from Fall 2024 through Fall 2025. I am requesting that these courses be removed from my record because they were completed during a prolonged period in which serious mental health challenges significantly impaired my ability to function and succeed academically.

Although these difficulties had been ongoing for some time, their impact on my academic performance became especially severe during this period. My mental health negatively affected my concentration, motivation, sleep, energy, organization, and overall ability to manage the demands of university. I struggled to attend classes consistently, complete coursework on time, stay focused on assignments, and prepare adequately for tests and exams. As a result, my academic performance deteriorated across multiple courses over several terms.

The courses included in this petition span more than one semester because the circumstances affecting me were not limited to a single isolated incident. Rather, I was experiencing an ongoing and worsening period of mental health difficulty that affected my ability to perform across Fall 2024, Winter 2025, and Fall 2025. The failed grades from these terms therefore reflect the impact of those extenuating circumstances, rather than my true academic ability, commitment, or potential as a student.

At the time, I was not in a position to respond to these challenges effectively. My condition affected not only my academic performance, but also my judgment and ability to make appropriate decisions about my studies. In hindsight, I recognize that I should have sought help sooner or withdrawn from courses earlier. However, during that period I was struggling in ways that made it difficult to fully understand the seriousness of the situation and take the necessary steps in time. While I take responsibility for the outcomes, I respectfully submit that these grades were earned under circumstances that substantially interfered with my ability to succeed.

I am requesting this relief because I do not believe the failed courses from this affected period fairly represent my capabilities or my actual level of academic commitment. Instead, they reflect a sustained period of significant personal and health-related difficulty. I am asking the Committee to consider the broader context in which these results occurred and to grant relief for the courses included in this petition.

Since then, I have taken steps to address the issues that contributed to this decline, including seeking treatment and support for my mental health. I am working toward greater stability and a stronger foundation so that I can move forward academically in a healthier and more sustainable way.
