Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
I am writing to formally submit a petition for consideration of extenuating circumstances that significantly impacted my academic performance during the second semester of 2026. During this academic period, I experienced several concurrent personal and health-related circumstances that were beyond my control and had direct negative impact on my ability to perform academically at my usual standard. These included a deterioration in my mental health requiring medical intervention and a new prescribed medication, the emotional impact of a recent breakup, the passing of a close family friend, a close friend undergoing major surgery, and ongoing family conflict.
These events occurred within the same general time frame, beginning approximately in December and continuing through the term. While each circumstance on its own would have been manageable, the cumulative and overlapping nature of these stressors, in combination with course overload and extracurricular, created a sustained period of emotional distress and instability.
The impact of said circumstances was significant and directly affected my academic functioning. During this period, I experienced reduced concentration, difficulty maintaining focus for extended periods, impaired memory retention, and a decrease in my ability to complete academic tasks in a timely and consistent manner. My capacity to organize assignments, engage with course readings, and prepare adequately for evaluations were substantially affected. I was unable to consistently meet deadlines and, when work was completed, it did not reflect my usual academic ability or standard of preparation. My overall academic output during this time was inconsistent and below my typical performance level due to the ongoing nature of these circumstances.
Despite these challenges, I made efforts to remain engaged in my studies wherever possible. I kept up with modules, attempted to keep up with readings and assignments, and continued working toward completing course requirements. However, the severity and persistence of my mental health and personal circumstances meant that my ability to function academically was significantly compromised throughout the term.
In response to my mental health challenges, I sought medical support and have since been prescribed medication by a healthcare professional. I am currently following a treatment plan and taking active steps toward improving my mental health and overall stability. I am also working to re-establish consistent academic habits as my condition improves.
I respectfully submit this petition in recognition that these extenuating circumstances had a direct and substantial impact on my academic performance during this period.
Thank you for your time, understanding, and consideration of my petition
Sincerely,
Natasha Moore
