Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I had surgery on January 19th, 2015 to remove a tumour. This forced me to miss 3 weeks of school for the purposes of convalescence. I returned at the beginning of reading week, in the hopes that I could catch up on all school work during the week off. With great effort, I was able to do so. However, as I continued my studies, my mental health began to waver, and in early March I left Kingston to return home to consult with my doctor and therapist. My doctor decided it would be best for me to begin taking medications, and after a month of adjusting medications and doses, I was still struggling with the side effects of the pills, which left me with extreme fatigue and nausea. It was at this point I decided I would be unable to return to Queen's and complete the remainder of the academic year in Kingston, and I dropped one of my courses, requested Aegrotat marks in the other (which I received), and requested incomplete grades in IDIS 210 and PHIL 256 in the hopes that I could arrange with the professors to complete the courses over the summer. As the summer came, I found myself continuing to struggle greatly with my mental health, which culminated in a stay at a treatment centre for 6 weeks. I had arranged with my professors to complete the courses by the end of July, however, I left the treatment centre in early August, leaving me no time to complete the courses. While at the treatment centre, I put all my strength and resources into the betterment of my mental health and thus did not have the time or energy to complete the courses. This, combined with the difficulty in adjusting to my medication, is why I was unable to complete the courses over the summer, and wish for them to be changed to dropped grades.
