Petition Letter: Dear Faculty of Arts and Sciences Representative,

My name is Tia Wilson - 20458679. I am a second year student in Life Sciences.

On December 10th, I had my first seizure at approximately 12am. This was about 2 hours after my final examination for PHYS 115. Leading up to one's first seizure, a person can experience symptoms of deja vu, visual disturbances, confusion, fear, and anxiety. For me personally, the anxiety, visual disturbances, and confusion were the most prominent.

This was my first seizure, and with the week I was diagnosed with epilepsy.

Following this diagnosis, I went through a phase called the prolonged postictal phase. The symptoms include confusion, cognitive deficits, memory loss, profound fatigue, and mood changes. There are more uncommon ones, but these are the ones that I reported to my physicians. This period lasted for about a month after my seizure. I had also started new medication that is known to cause lapses in memory and slight cognitive deficits, on its own. I found it both difficult to study and recall information. Additionally, I was not granted my academic accommodations for PHGY 215.

I wrote my deferred exams on January 19th for CHEM 281 and January 24th for PHGY 215. Leading up to these exams I found it both difficult to study and remember the content that I had studied beforehand.

I write this letter to request credit standing, as my GPA fell from a 3.2 average to a 2.7, following my fall semester. My academic abilities were greatly impaired and I was not in the right state of mind to write these final exams.

I have provided medical information from my ER visit for my seizure in my academic consideration notice, and I can provide that again, if necessary.

I hope that you can consider my request, while providing both understanding and compassion for my situation. I would greatly appreciate your support. These last few months have been among the most difficult periods of my life. i never wanted to be a student who asked for favours, but I here I am, hoping to receive any amount of support.
