Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello. I am writing to request a waiver of the petition deadline in order to seek a Credit Standing (CR) for ARTH121, which I completed in the Fall 2024 term. At the time I was enrolled in the course, I experienced significant extenuating health circumstances. I had broken my ankle during the semester, which directly affected my ability to attend and complete in-person tutorial reflections, a component worth 20% of the final grade. I had registered accommodations through QSAS and submitted academic consideration within the appropriate timeframe, and these circumstances are documented in my academic record. Despite these challenges, I performed well in the remainder of the course, earning grades above 78% on all other components. Based on this, my final grade would have been approximately an A- had the participation component been accommodated. However, I ultimately received a final grade of D+, which has had a significant negative impact on my GPA.mAt the time, I did submit a petition related to my circumstances which didn't result in a favourable outcome. However, due to the severity and continuation of personal and health-related issues following that term (also documented), I was not aware that I may have been eligible to request a Credit Standing (CR) within the one-year deadline, instead of seeking excused participation which was original course of action. As a result, I missed the window to submit this specific request. Given the documented nature of my circumstances both during and after the course, I am asking that the deadline to petition for a CR be waived so that my case may be considered. I believe this would more accurately reflect my academic performance and the impact of my circumstances during that period. I understand that deadlines are in place for important administrative reasons, and I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration of this request. Thank you very much for your understanding.
