Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am registered with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) due to ongoing mental health challenges, which can fluctuate significantly over time. As a result, I experience periods where I have been unable to meet academic expectations, particularly during times of heightened stress such as exam periods. In the 2024-2025 school year, I was faced with difficult personal circumstances that exacerbated my condition. I was in contact with my QSAS advisor as well as the professors in all of my courses. I was always transparent with my advisor as she helped me contact professors to make arrangements to complete exams that I had to defer, and assignments that needed extensions. Most of my professors were very accommodating and allowed me to complete my exams at the deferred exam period, even when some had to be deferred twice. However, in MICR 386, there was a communication breakdown that led to the failure to find a new time to write my exams. At the time, I felt guilty and as though lI was asking too much or being too difficult, as I understood that my requests were inconvenient to my professors. Feeling ashamed and undeserving, I gave up and stopped pursuing a new exam date. In retrospect, I recognize that I should have pursued this accommodation more actively, but due to the challenges I was experiencing, I was not in a position to do so effectively due to my health condition. As a result, I ended up failing the course and do not have plans to retake it. I would like to advocate now to drop the course from my transcript as the grade is very detrimental to my overall GPA, and as you may see, not an accurate example of who I am as a student and what I can complete.
