Petition Letter: I am respectfully requesting permission to add PHGY 216 past the academic deadline for the Summer Term.
I have previously completed this course in my second year; however, I am seeking to retake it in order to improve my academic standing and strengthen future applications to programs I am interested in, specifically Respiratory Therapy programs. Improving my performance in this course is important part of my academic and professional goals moving forward.
During the registration period, I attempted to enroll in the course but because this was a repeat course SOLUS blocked my enrollment. I was unaware at the time that I need to request approvement from the Faculty of Arts and Science to enroll in the course. After finding this out I submitted a request to the Faculty on May 8th and explained my situation. I received an email from them today and they encouraged me to submit an Academic Petition to “Add courses past the academic deadline to add courses” as soon as possible. I was also made aware that I need approval from the course instructor and have since contacted him. I made sure to explain in my email why I would like to enroll in this course and that I plan to catch up immediately if approved. Since I have taken it before I have a general understanding of the material and belive it would not be difficult for me to catch up on any lectures and assignments. I wanted to get ahead of the process and submit my petition request now even though do not have the approval from the course instructor yet. However, once I receive approval, I will ensure to submit the email document to further support my petition.
I respectfully ask that my petition be considered given the circumstances surrounding the enrollment restriction and the importance of this course to my future academic and career plans.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My academic goal is to strengthen my prerequisites and overall academic performance in preparation for future application to Respiratory Therapy programs. Retaking PHGY 216 is an essential part of this plan as my previous grade was not the one I hoped for. I believe that by retaking the course I can significantly improve my understanding of the material and overall performance.
If permitted to enroll, I will prioritize catching up on all missed course material and immediately create a structured weekly study scheduled to remain current with lectures, assignments, and assessments. I also plan to make use of my academic accommodations and maintain regular communication with the course instructor if any difficulties arise. If approved this will not only help me achieve a grade that best represents my academic ability but will allow me to have a stronger understanding of the subject.
Moving forward, I am now aware of enrollment procedures and deadlines for repeat courses so no other issues around this situation should occur again.
