Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to respectfully request consideration for a late addition to Math 121.
I originally completed this course during my first year at Queen’s University. At the time, I was experiencing significant extenuating circumstances that negatively affected my academic performance and resulted in the lowest grade I have received throughout my undergraduate studies. These circumstances impacted my ability to perform to my usual academic standard during that period.
Since then, I have taken meaningful steps to address these challenges and improve academically. Throughout the remainder of my degree, I have demonstrated significantly stronger academic performance and have worked consistently to better reflect my capabilities as a student. In an effort to address the impact this course had on my GPA, I made the decision to delay my graduation in order to retake Math 121.
Unfortunately, due to a manual override from Academic Services related to my previous enrollment in the course, I was placed on the waitlist later than other students. As a result, I was unable to secure a spot in the course before the add/drop deadline passed. Since I am scheduled to begin my Master’s program this fall, this summer represents my only remaining opportunity to retake the course.
As I intend to pursue dental school following my graduate studies, retaking Math 121 would provide me with the opportunity to strengthen my GPA and better reflect my academic abilities as an applicant.
I understand the importance of academic deadlines and procedures, and I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration of my request. Thank you very much for reviewing my petition.
Sincerely,
Nona

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: If my petition is granted, I have a clear academic plan in place to support my success in Math 121. Since the academic difficulties I experienced in first year, I have significantly improved my study habits, time management, and overall academic performance. Throughout the remainder of my undergraduate degree, I have demonstrated much stronger academic standing, which I believe better reflects my abilities as a student.
This summer, I will be able to dedicate focused attention to Math 121 without the competing adjustment challenges and personal circumstances that affected me during my first year. I have intentionally planned a manageable course load in order to prioritize success in this course and ensure that I can devote sufficient time to reviewing material consistently, attending lectures and office hours, and seeking help when needed.
In preparation for retaking the course, I have already begun reviewing previous material and identifying areas where I struggled previously so that I can approach the course with stronger foundational understanding and improved study strategies. I also intend to make use of available academic supports and maintain consistent structure and accountability throughout the term.
I am confident that, if granted the opportunity to enroll in Math 121, I will be able to successfully complete the course and demonstrate my true academic capabilities.
