Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
My request: I am petitioning to drop ENGL200 (Fall-Winter, 2026 and MUSC240 (Winter 2026).
Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances: This term I have experienced extenuating circumstances as it relates to my health that have prevented me from completing these courses. My mental health has severely affected my ability to complete all required course work and attend class. I have been receiving care from a medical professional, as well as support from QSAS and the Care Team. As a result, I had hoped I could complete these courses through accommodations once established or more recently, with Incomplete status and/or Exam Deferrals. I reached out to my professors throughout the term for extensions but remained unable to complete. I remained in contact with my health care provider, having provided documentation to QSAS who also supported with appropriate accommodations. Unfortunately, I remain unable to complete these courses as a result of continued struggles with my health so I am petitioning to drop these courses. These are the only two courses remaining as I had previously dropped my other courses in efforts to preserve at least these two courses (as well as my PROF class, which I did manage to complete). As explained, I did not drop these two courses before the Week 8 drop deadline as I was working to try to complete in some way as it was unclear at that time if I would be able to or not.
My Future Plan: includes taking ENGL200 again next year and potentially taking MUSC240 again. Overall, I will ultimately have to add another year to my degree program as I’ve had to drop the courses from this Winter semester due to this significant health event. I have connected with an academic advisor to understand the options.
