Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear professor Kelechi Kemnele / Academic Appeals Committee],
I am writing to respectfully appeal my standing in HLTH 102]. I take full responsibility for my academic performance this term, and I would like to provide context regarding the circumstances that affected my ability to complete coursework on time.
Although I completed all of the course material and assignments, a significant portion of my grades was impacted by late penalties that were applied in accordance with school guidelines. The delays in submission were connected to ongoing difficulties related to ADHD and anxiety, which affected my concentration, organization, time management, and ability to effectively manage deadlines throughout the semester.
In addition, I had to stop taking my ADHD medication due to negative side effects. This created further challenges while I worked to adjust and manage my symptoms without medication. I am currently working with my doctor to address these issues and determine a more suitable treatment plan moving forward.
Part of the delay in addressing these academic difficulties was due to waiting to meet with Academic Advising regarding appropriate support and next steps. Had I been able to access guidance earlier, I believe the lateness of my submissions would have been significantly reduced. Since then, I have been meeting regularly with my Disability Support Counsellor, and we are actively working on connecting with Academic Advising before the Fall semester to establish stronger academic supports and strategies.
I recognize that I should have communicated these challenges sooner, and I regret not seeking assistance earlier in the semester. However, I am taking meaningful steps to improve my academic habits and better manage my health and responsibilities moving forward. Although I submitted an academic appeal last semester, I have made noticeable improvements this semester in both my academic performance and overall approach to my studies. While I still missed some deadlines, I ensured that I completed my coursework and remained engaged in my classes. I have been working on improving my time management, consistency, and ability to balance responsibilities more effectively. These efforts have helped me make meaningful progress, and I am committed to continuing this improvement moving forward.
I respectfully ask for consideration regarding my final standing in the course and any opportunity available to demonstrate my understanding of the material or lessen the impact of the late penalties. I value my education greatly and remain committed to my academic success.
I have required documentation from my doctor.
Thank you for your time, understanding, and consideration.
Sincerely,

Maddy Shuster
