Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Appeal Letter: in my denial letter section 1.7.1.8 was quoted to me. I was able to provide some sort of undeniable documentation for everything except my pregnancy loss. which I have been attempting to obtain for the month I was provided to compile my documentation. unfortunately due to medical staff shortages and patient backlog I have struggled to receive full documentation. I have called lakeside 4 separate time during office hours and been sent to voicemail. I did not feel that it was needed to explain how the loss of my grandfather and two babies was deeply psychologically scaring. additionally I broke my foot in the late fall into the winter of 2025-2026, i was given an air cast and it was incredibly difficult to make it to classes. I know how important it is to queens university to treat each student as an individual so I feel as though it is important to note that my broken foot was the first major injury I had received in my life, not even stiches before this, so I had no idea how to navigate it and it was a significant physical event for me. My grandfather was like a second father to me and he was the first grandparent and important family member I had loss. the grief caused extreme brain fog and depression which prevented me from getting assignments in by the due date. this also covers section 1.1 which was also cited to me. I had no control over the death of the child in my womb or the death of my grandfather, and I certainly didn't have much control over breaking my foot. if I had been participating in reckless activities that would be one thing however I broke my foot from twisting my ankle while standing still and landing on it. I have experienced an incredibly difficult year to be sure. because of the medical backlog I have not been able to compile all of the documentation I would have liked, However if given the opportunity by the end of the month I will be able to provide a doctors note from Dr. Tu Van Bahn and a note from Dr. David Sider both stating that they have treatment plans set up with me and they both believe that I will be ready to return to school and excel in all my courses.

I would additionally like to note how when I applied for academic support during my grandfathers passing I was given two weeks as that is what is standard, yet in the letter from the associate dean I am being told I should take a year to reflect and address the factors that may be hindering my academic performance. I'm sure the board can understand how frustrating it is to hear that.

I was not in a state of mind to recognize that I should have taken the winter semester off and was pass the drop date for the fall semester. I failed this past year because of several freak incidents that all happened to pile up, I have worked incredibly hard with doctors to now be in a position where I am capable to return to my studies and I am certain that I will excel if given this opportunity. my certainty is only reenforced by my work with Dr. David and if given the opportunity I will provide a letter from him stating this.
