Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am requesting Credit standing based on an episode of significant physical symptoms that occurred during my final examination and negatively affected my academic performance.

In the few days before the exam, I had been experiencing poor sleep. When the exam began, I felt well enough to complete it. But during the exam, I began experiencing dizziness, nausea, a headache, and difficulty concentrating. At the time, I believed I could complete the examination despite feeling unwell. Because the symptoms developed during the exam and I was unsure of their cause, I did not notify the invigilator. I completed the examination and left without seeking immediate medical attention. After the exam, I ate, rested, and slept, and the symptoms improved significantly. Based on a previous experience at a walk-in clinic, I was asked to use the university's Wellness Centre for non-emergency health concerns. However, appointments at the Wellness Centre were not immediately available. Since the symptoms had largely resolved by that point, I did not pursue further medical assessment and therefore do not have medical documentation related to this incident.

The effect of these circumstances was limited to the final examination for this course, but it affected my GPA. My final grade in this course was significantly lower than my usual academic performance this year. During the same semester, I earned A to A+ grades in my other courses, making this result uncharacteristic of my overall academic record.

I understand that the absence of supporting documentation may limit the evidence available for review. I have provided a complete and honest account of the circumstances as I experienced them. I respectfully ask that you consider the impact these events had on my performance during the final examination and the extent to which the resulting course grade differs from my usual academic standing.
