Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I have submitted an appeal application for Credit standing in Film 110 (FW 2013), for which the final grade had released at the end of May 2014. I am writing this letter to appeal that the 21-day appeal deadline be waived.
The reason that I could not submit an appeal within the deadline is that at that time I struggled with mental illness. I used to think of myself as confident and tough, and I had a great expectation for my life at Queen's. However, as time went by I found myself losing interest in almost everything that I did not want to go lectures and I refused to attend any events with friends. It seemed that vitality and curiosity have been pulled away from me, and sadly I didn't know why. I was disappointed of myself for being so ridiculous, wasting the chance and opportunity I have been worked hard for. I tried to let the experience stay private and figure out a solution but the truth is I was overwhelmed by anxiety and fear. So I started to talk to my friend, my resident dun for advices. At one point I felt better but next moment I got worse. Depression made me so exhausted that I did not have the time and energy to think and plan for my life, and thus failing to submit the academic appeal.
It took me a while to move to the right track. I spent a lot time with families during the first summer vacation. I had a conversation with my parents about my suffering and things I did not mention in the phone, and I was truly grateful for their support. Now I am committed of myself, having a deeper thought about college and future and taking responsibility of my life. I am doing more, thinking more and feeling more. I hope that my request will be granted for the difficulties I have overcome and for better achievement in the future.
Thanks for spending time on my letter. I am willing to provide any information requested.
Sincerely,
Rong.
