Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to respectfully request permission to take more than 6.0 units of courses through a Letter of Permission at another university in order to complete the remaining requirements for my degree.
Due to significant financial and physical difficulties, I will need to relocate from Kingston and can no longer reasonably remain in the city while completing my studies at Queen’s. At this stage in my degree, I only have a small number of courses remaining before graduation. Given my current circumstances, completing these remaining requirements through online, self-paced courses offered by another institution would provide the flexibility and affordability necessary for me to continue progressing toward graduation.
Over the past while, I have also been managing escalating personal and financial challenges that have made it increasingly difficult to maintain stability while studying in person. The opportunity to complete courses remotely and with flexible scheduling would significantly reduce these pressures and allow me to focus on successfully finishing my degree requirements.
I am requesting permission to exceed the standard 6.0-unit limit because this option represents the most practical and sustainable path for me to complete my studies without interruption. The courses I intend to take would help me fulfill my remaining degree requirements while accommodating the constraints created by my financial situation and relocation. In the past, I have received help from counsellors, and I do believe after much consideration that this is my best path forward.
I remain committed to completing my degree and graduating from Queen’s University, and I would greatly appreciate your consideration of this request.

Academic Plan: If my petition is granted, I will complete my remaining degree requirements through approved online courses taken on a Letter of Permission while living outside of Kingston.
Courses I need to complete include: BIOL 111 or 103, DRAM 300, MATH, STATS or CHEM, GEOL 106/105, GPHY 102.
I plan to complete the remaining equivalent courses through Thompson Rivers University and Athabasca University, including ENGL 4341 (Modern Canadian Theatre), BIOL 3021 (Community and Ecosystem Ecology), GEOL 2391 (Environmental Geology), STAT 1201 (Introduction to Probability and Statistics), CHEM 330 (Environmental Chemistry), and GEOG 1221 (Introduction to Physical Geography), as approved by Queen's University.
To support my academic success, I will maintain a manageable course load, follow a structured study schedule, and take advantage of the flexibility offered by self-paced online courses.
