Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am a new transfer student to Queen's University and this is my first fall semester here. I am a student in the Applied Economics Program and signed up to take Econ 320 - Macroeconomics Theory II as an elective, as it is not a requirement for my program. Although this course is challenging, I thought it would provide depth and continuity for previously learned material and advance my understanding of the macro economy. However, after completing the first assignment (Due: October 6th), I have decided that this is not the right course for me at this time. Given the challenging nature and additional work commitments required, I do not believe I will be successful in this class given my courses this year, which include Commerce 323 - Corporate Financial Planning and Econ 310 - Microeconomic Theory II.

During the week of the 25th, I attempted each day from Wednesday - Friday to get an academic advising appointment, as I did not want to make any changes to my schedule without consulting an advisor. Given my schedule and having a medical appointment in Toronto, it was not possible to come into the Art/Sci Student Services building at 8:30am, however when I called at 9:00AM each morning (when the phones open) all of the appointments had been filled for those days. Ultimately, I was unaware of the deadline to swap classes of Friday, September 25. I am hoping I can receive some leniency and be able to swap Econ 320 for Geography 229. I have gained approval from both the Professor and the Undergraduate Chair for geography to join this class. (Please see emails below)

Geography 229 will provide me with a learning experience I will truly enjoy as well as compliment my schedule; which includes a part time job, full time classes and extra-curricular student involvement. Given my financial situation, I am appealing to you to allow me to swap these courses (Econ 320 for Gphy 229) with no financial penalty.

I look forward to your response and sincerely thank you for your time.

Best Regards,

Adam Kadoch

Hi Professor Donald,

My name is Adam Kadoch and I am a new transfer student to Queen's. Unfortunately, I was unaware or the deadline to add/swap course of September 25. I am attempting to add Gphy 229 - Place, Space , Culture & Social Life in place of Econ 320. As per Student Services, I was instructed to contact you for your permission to join the course as well as appeal to the associate dean. I hope to gain your permission to join GPHY 229 and look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

2. Professor Lovell:

Permission granted, Adam -- good that you got to the class on Friday, though

I will request my TA Alexandra Pedersen, on the cc-line above, to forward you the 229 syllabus and related materials. Get cracking on those readings

Should still be required texts in the Bookstore for you to buy.

Hi Professor Lovell,

My name is Adam Kadoch and I am a new transfer to Queen's. Although I have missed the deadline of Friday September 25th, I am attempting to join this class while appealing to the associate dean. With your permission, I can move forward in the appeal process to add this course. I attended the last class and found the material very interesting and think it will add value to my time at Queen's. I looking forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: ACADEMIC PLAN:

As I have been interested in this course for over a week, I have been attending the class since last week's sessions. In addition I have purchased the required reading materials and have already began catching up. When I emailed the Professor, he had his TA forward me a copy of the syllabus to ensure I had the correct materials.

If I can be enrolled in this course, I will immediately consult the professor again to receive 1 on 1 clarification of the expectations and procedures for the course. In addition, I have already been informed of how the course will be evaluated and therefore I have not missed any of the assignments. Through continued readings and continual class attendance (Wednesday and Friday class), I believe I will be fully caught up to speed by the end of this week. I do intend to attend the class today (Wednesday, September 30) and continue progressing towards successful completion of the course.

Best Regards,

Adam Kadoch
