Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Petitions Committee,

I am writing to respectfully request permission to enroll in WRIT 120.

This course is essential to my academic and professional goals. I intend to apply to medical school, and an English writing course is a prerequisite for many medical school programs. In addition, WRIT 120 will help me fulfill my remaining elective credit requirements for my degree.

At this time, I am 3 credits behind my graduation requirements. Without being able to enroll in WRIT 120, I will not be able to complete my degree requirements before my expected graduation next year. Being allowed to take this course will help me stay on track for graduation while also meeting an important prerequisite for my future medical school applications.

I recognize that my petition is being submitted after the applicable deadline. The delay occurred because I was out of the country on an extended cruise and did not have reliable access to Wi-Fi or other means of communicating with the university. As a result, I was unable to submit my petition within the required timeframe. I am submitting this petition as soon as possible after returning and regaining reliable access to the internet.

If my petition is granted, I have a clear plan to ensure my academic success. I will prioritize WRIT 120 by setting aside dedicated time each week to complete readings, assignments, and revisions. I will maintain a structured study schedule, attend all classes, make use of my instructor’s office hours, and seek assistance from the Writing Centre whenever needed. I am also prepared to reduce any outside commitments to ensure I can dedicate the time and effort necessary to succeed in the course. I am fully committed to catching up on any missed material and performing to the best of my ability.
