Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am writing to petition the drop of a class after its deadline.

Due to financial need, during the 2026 summer semester I was required to acquire a seasonal employment. When discussing my seasonal contract with my Management we came to an understanding that I would be expected to work less than full-time hours during the summer months which would provide me an appropriate amount of time to complete my coursework . However, caused by a severe staffing shortage, my hours have gradually increased to over 50 hours a week and many 12 hour workdays. Despite attempting to acquire time-off and reduced hours, I was not able to reduce my hours because of ongoing management issues.

Because of the continuation of these circumstances I was led to experience extreme physical exhaustion and worsened existing mental health conditions which I have been attempting to manage. To aid in managing my ongoing mental health condition I also began to take a prescribed medication under the supervision of a healthcare professional, which required adjustments and resulted in unintended side effects that made academic responsibilities harder to fulfil.

Due to my unforeseen employment demands and both new & existing health challenges, I formally and respectfully ask for permission to drop my class past the deadline. Thank you for your time and consideration.
