Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing to receive credit for a course I took at the London School of Economics. For my first year at Queen's I attended the Bader International Study Centre. While there, I was interested in continuing my studies in England so I applied to take a summer course at LSE. As part of the application process to LSE, I was required to send in academic references and my transcript.

Upon my acceptance into the program I discussed with the on-campus academic advisor at the castle about this option. He supported the idea, and did not inform me that I had to make an appeal to Queen's University in order for the credit to be transferred. This gave the impression that my application to LSE with the transcript was sufficient for it to be transferred.

The course was a month long in July 2013, and was competed at the London School of Economics London campus. I took MG101: Marketing - Business Management. Upon the completion of the course I received a transcript containing my final grade.

This past year I brought in my transcript to student services, and was then informed that there was conflict because I did not apply beforehand with Queen's to take the course. I am writing an appeal because during my first year I did not have access to the on-campus resources in Kingston which lead me to be misinformed of the process, resulting in me not going through the official process to make the credit count.

Additionally this course being counted towards my Queen's transcript is increasingly important because I have a job offer contingent on graduating on time, in April of 2016. Should my LSE credit not count towards my transcript, I will have to take six courses next semester in order to graduate on time. I receive academic accommodation with the Queen's Disability Services as I have a learning disability where I require additional aid, and having over a full course load is not ideal for me. I am currently enrolled in 6 courses this semester, and finding it extremely stressful for me having to balance this with my disability.
