Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean:

I am appealing to drop the FREN 363 Fall 2015 course after the academic penalty. The reason for doing so is because I am currently undergoing psychological challenges that have affected my performance in this course. I have been struggling with depression, stress, and anxiety that have affected my ability to focus and concentrate. I'm currently finishing up an evaluation with the Regional Assessment and Resource Centre (RARC) to diagnose a learning disability (suspected to the point of providing me with temporary accommodations in my courses during my assessment) which I believe has profoundly affected my performance in school. Despite this, I had sincerely believed that I was doing well in this course, however upon receiving my midterm last week, which was the first time receiving feedback for the course since its commencement, I found out that I was struggling a lot more than I thought. The reason I hadn't dropped the course was because my professor was behind on marking our first assignment handed in the fifth week of class, which I thought would have raised my average in the class to a respectable level. Because the assignment was only given back to us on Monday, after the late drop deadline, I could not late drop the course on Moodle after finding out I had done extremely poorly on this assignment. I will contact RARC to permit them to share any supporting documentation that you may require in regards to my psychological challenges. I am planning on making up the credit lost during the summer or next fall, as I'm on target to complete my minor degree by the end of my 4th year even without completing this course at the current time.

This letter serves as my formal petition for a retroactive late drop from the course and my explanation of the circumstances.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

George Anthony O. S. Desmond
