Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am requesting to drop all of my fall 2015 courses (psyc100- online, psyc205, psyc235, psyc241, and psyc251).
I was unable to drop my courses before the deadline because I was not aware that the deadline had passed. So here is my appeal letter, hoping that I am still able to drop my course marks from my transcript for the fall 2015 semester.
I would like to explain my extenuating circumstances to you that are beyond my control, and have directly affected my academic performance. My parents got divorced over the summer, which was a surprise to my whole family. They both have moved into new houses and we have all been trying to cope with the change. It has been extremely hard for me to focus on school here in Kingston when there is so much going on at home. When my sisters and I were first told about the divorce, I thought about not coming back to Queen's at all. Then, after some thought, I decided to try and do my best at Queen's.
More recently, my sister has been dealing with a serious medical issue (for the past two months). She has yet to be diagnosed with anything, even after numerous tests. Between the divorce and my sister being sick, my head has not been in my studies. As much as I study, and try to stay focused, my head and heart are at home, with my family. All of this has put a lot of stress on me. My mother had suggested me seeing some sort of a counsellor but I didn't think I needed it until more recently.
For my future, I am unsure about where I am going after I leave Queen's. I think once I am home, I will work part-time and help out as much as I can at home. Then, once I feel ready, I plan to go to school close to home and I am most likely going to take similar courses to what I was taking at Queen's but at college. I also plan to meet with a counsellor to get further help. At this point in my life, I just need a break and to take time to be with my family during these hard times.
Thank-you for taking time out of your busy day to read my appeal,
Megan Hutchinson
