Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of Studies,

I am appealing to drop ECON360 (Winter 2015). I would like to have this opportunity to explain my circumstance and ask I be allowed to drop the course.

This course is a 3.0 unit course, and I was given in an incomplete, so it should have been finished at the end of Winter term2015. However, due to an emergency, my professor allowed me to defer the final exam to next semester, which is this Fall term of 2015. At the beginning of this fall semester, I confirmed with my professor about rescheduling the final exam. I was informed that my professor would not be able to reschedule my exam to the end of this semester due to his unavailability, but instead, to the end of Winter 2016. Therefore, I am appealing to drop this course for these reasons: first is that I am planning to graduate by this term because I have taken enough credits, I am eligible to graduate this semester without this course unit. More importantly, there will be a long period of time between the course and the exam. Since the exam is worth 80 of my final grade, I will be unprepared with all materials forgotten by the end of Winter 2016.

I am also appealing to extend the incomplete in ECON223, and write the final exam of ECON223 by the end of term Fall 2015. During the summer, we had been emailing back and forth regarding the course completion, and we were unable to work out a timeline. As a result, I did not complete this course within the require time frame, due to the confusion between my professor and myself about the requirement to withdraw. I have received the permission from professor Anya Hageman, for letting me write the final exam with other students. Since I have deferred the final exam in Winter 2015, I need to finish this course in order to gain enough units to graduate.
